Barr's poetry has appeared in Poet Lore, Muzzle Magazine, Ninth Letter, and elsewhere. She is the recipient of a Bread Loaf-Rona Jaffe scholarship and a Sewanee Writers' Conference Tennessee Williams scholarship.

Alissa M. Barr is a third-year MFA candidate at Vanderbilt University and served as the 2023-2024 Poetry Editor for The Nashville Review. She holds a Bachelor's in Nursing from Radford University, where she began her career as a critical care nurse. Originally from Alleghany County, Virginia in central Appalachia, she currently splits her time between Nashville and Cincinnati.
